Dear Residents: Summer is upon us and came in with a vengeance. The Village suffered significant damage from the storm that hit us on June 13
th, which produced straight line winds in excess of 85 mph taking down trees and causing numerous power outages. Several buildings sustained damage including trees into houses, roofs blown off and one of those power lines contacted a garage door and started the garage on fire. Our Public Works department worked together to facilitate the picking up of debris and remedying the tree damage. Our Police Department responded to 20 calls for service relating to downed trees or powerlines, assists to the Fire Department and Public Works and damage to property calls.
In addition to the storm, we were also dealing with record high temperatures. With some of our residents having no power, a cooling center was set up at Edison School with the help of District 103. To help cool off the kids, Stickney Fire Department set up water spray stations at various locations and provided a “charging station” for cellular devices at the same locations.
It was quite a week, but the good news is that there were no reports of injuries to residents or Village employees. Our departments worked extremely hard cleaning up the town and we even saw and heard about residents stepping up and helping each other. Although you can never really prepare for a storm like that, we certainly came together as a community and “weathered” the storm.
Enjoy the summer, spend time outside in one of the Village’s parks. Come join us for Music in the Park on Wednesday evenings through July 27 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the pavilion at 41
